PURPOSE:To produce the titled porous glass having excellent heat resistance, chemical durability and chemical reactivity, by heat-treating a specific multi- component oxide glass to effect the phase-separation, and removing an acid- soluble component. CONSTITUTION:A raw material composed of 10-40(mol)% TiO2, 10-40% SiO2, 5-20% Al2O3, 1-10% B2O3, 10-30% CaO, =10% MgO, =5% alkali metal oxide, and =5% oxide of metallic element, is melted at about 1,400 deg.C for 30- 60min, and quenched to obtain a multi-component oxide glass of formula TiO2- SiO2-Al2O3-B2O3-CaO-MgO-X2O-YmOn (X2O is alkali metal oxide; YmOn is oxide of metallic element). The glass is heated at 600-900 deg.C for 0.5-100hr to obtain an opalescent or devitrified phase-separated glass. The objective porous glass having a glass skeleton composed mainly of TiO2 and SiO2 and having a TiO2/ SiO2 weight ratio of 0.8-1.7 can be produced by immersing the above glass in an acid solution, and dissolving and removing the acid-soluble component.
