PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as an intermediate raw material of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, etc., economically in an industrial scale, by using a specific primary amine and a catalyst containing a specific component, in the liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation of a mixture of furfural and a primary amine in the presence of ammonia. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of furfural and a primary amine is subjected to the liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of ammonia to obtain furfurylamine and/or tetrahydrofurfurylamine. In the above process, furfurylamine and/or tetrahydrofurfurylamine is used as the primary amine, and a cobalt-based catalyst or nickel-based catalyst (e.g. Raney catalyst, basic carbonate, hydroxide, etc. of cobalt or nickel, etc.) is used as the catalyst. The reaction temperature is preferably 20-200 deg.C.
