PURPOSE:To test simultaneously, automatically and efficiently the soundness of plural probes by scanning a split surface of the probe and a slit-shaped detect of a flat bottom of a test piece for verification so as to become orthogonal to them. CONSTITUTION:A slit-shaped artificial defect 11a is formed to a width of, for instance, about 2-6mm. on the bottom part of a verification use test piece 11, and a probe 1 group or a test piece 11 group is moved so as to be orthogonal to an acoustic split surface 3 of the probe 1 and the slit-shaped defect 11a of the test piece 11. At the time of said scan, a bottom face echo output BG and a defect echo output F from an ultrasonic flaw detector 17 are F/BG-recorded by a recording device 18 and a digital recorder 19.
