PAPER SIZE DETECTION MECHANISM FOR PAPER FEED CASSETTE IN IMAGE FORMING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To read travel toward upward of reading medium on the side of a placing plate by a detector so as to stabilize it by engaging the placing plate of a cassette on which paper sheets are placed with the lowest section in advance, inserting it in the main body, releasing engagement due to insertion, and moving the placing plate upward. CONSTITUTION:Paper sheets Y are put on a paper placing plate 17 in a cassette body 16, the sheet Y is pressed downward against a spring X, and an engaging claw 35 of the placing plate 17 engages with a claw section 41 of engaged piece 36 on the bottom of the cassette body 16. When the cassette body 16 is mounted on a device body 11 in this condition, the engaged piece 36 is pressed, engagement is released, and the placing plate 17 is moved by the spring X. Since read information medium 33 is provided on the side of the placing plate 17, the read medium 33 is moved owing to movement of the placing plate 17 and read by a detector. Consequently, the scanning direction (upward) and travel speed of the read information medium 33 become constant, and stable reading is done.
