CRYSTALLINE POLY(ETHER THIOETHER AROMATIC KETONE) COPOLYMER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To produce the title copolymer excellent in heat resistance, flame retardancy, low hygroscopicity, dimensional stability and affinity for inorganic filler, by polycondensing a specified active hydrogen-containing component with a 4,4'-dihaloterephthalophenone. CONSTITUTION:0.95-1.20mol of an active hydrogen-containing component comprising 1-99mol% p-dimercaptobenzene and 99-1mol% 4-hydroxythiophenol is polycondensed with 1mol of a 4,4'-dihaloterephthalophenone (e.g., 4,4'- dichloroterephthalophenone) at 200-400 deg.C in the presence of an alkali metal (bi)carbonate (e.g., Na2CO3) in at least one solvent selected from among aliphatic sulfones, aromatic sulfones and (thio)xanthone compounds in an inert gas atmosphere to obtain the titled copolymer comprising structural units (A) of formula I and aromatic ether thioether units (B) comprising 99-1mol% structural units of formula II and 1-99mol% structural units of formula III, having a linear structure in which units A and units belonging to B are alternately bonded one after another and having an intrinsic viscosity =0.15.
