PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the distribution of the particle sizes from the particles having the small diameters to the particles having the large diameters over a broad range by chamfering a part of the outer surface of a sample cell. CONSTITUTION:A chamfered part 10 is formed at one edge part of an outer surface 2b of a sample cell 2 at the light emitting side. The angle formed between scattering light 5' and the chamfered part 10 is substantially expanded. The scattering light 5' is taken out of the sample cell 2 and detected with a detector 4'. Scattering light is transmitted through the outer surface 2b of the sample cell which is not chamfered and has the small scattering angle. The scattering light 5 is detected with a detector 4 which is otherwise provided. Therefore, the angle formed with the outer surface of the cell can be made large, and the angle formed between the scattering light and the outer surface of the sample cell becomes small. The scattering light which cannot be transmitted through the sample cell up to now can be measured. In this way, the particle size distribution of the particles having the large diameters can be measured over a broad range.
