PURPOSE:To obtain a higher stable output from a laser, and to lengthen the lifetime of a device remarkably by using a copper material in which the total of not only oxygen but also other impurities of C, S, Na, Mg, Al, P, N, Ca, Zn, As, Se, Sb, Te, Fb and Bi is brought to a specific value or less. CONSTITUTION:For reduce C, refractories and C as a reducing agent are not used when acquiring high purity copper, a dissolving atmosphere is cautioned regarding oxygen, and operation is conducted in a vacuum. Electron-beam dissolving treatment is executed regarding Na, K, Zn, As, Bi, Se, Sb, P, Te and Pb, and these elements are volatilized and removed. A water-cooling copper mold is employed on electron-beam dissolution, thus preventing mixing from refractories of Mg, Al and Ca. According to said treatment, a copper material for a copper vapor laser in which C and O each extend over 10 ppm or less and the total of impurities consisting of S, Na, Mg, Al, P, K, Ca, Zn, As, Se, Sb, Te, Pb and Bi extends over 2 ppm or less is acquired.
