The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for intravenous administration of carbamazepine with a rapid onset of action. The composition contains: a) carbamazepine; b) as solubiliser beta -cyclodextrin etherified by C1-C4-alkyl and/or hydroxy-C2-C4-alkyl and c) the liquid vehicle and optionally further water-soluble pharmaceutical auxiliaries.
