Sterilisation is carried out in equipment having a tubular ultra-violet electric lamp contained in a protective tube permeable to the ultra-violet rays. A second tube, also permeable to the rays, encloses the first one, which protrudes from it at the ends. The ends of both tubes are fixed and sealed round their peripheries in non-metallic bodies, in each of which a chamber is formed. This is openly connected to the space between the tubes, and also to a passage open at the outside.
