The fodder is suitable for mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits or similar. The prim. and sec. food substances are broken down to fine particles, and then mixed together. The mixt. is then subjected to the combined effect of heat and pressure to produce a relatively hard bar or block-shaped unit. Heating takes place in the temp. range 40 - 75 deg.C, with the pressure being between 30 and 150 kp/cm2. The fodder can take various forms, e.g. finely broken down hay mixed with approximately 1% cooking salt and possibly other food substances. The mixt. is compressed at a pressure of at least 125 kp/cm2 and at a temp. of 55 - 60 deg.C. Another version involves corn, dried vegetables, maize an dthe like mixed with liq. sugar, the mixt. being compressed at a pressure of 40 - 60 kp/cm2 and at a temp. of approximately 60 deg.C.
