The invention relates to a magneto-hydrodynamic propulsion source, suitable in particular for naval applications.In particular, the invention is applied to a propulsion source of the type which provides:- a channel (124), open at both ends, for the passage of a conductive fluid such as sea water, immersed in an oriented magnetic field (Fm),- a pair of electrodes (10, 11) disposed on two flanks of the channel such that the electric field (Fe) generated is disposed at 90 degrees with respect to the said magnetic field, and both are transverse to the axis of the channel.According to the invention, the propulsion source provides a pair of coils (121, 122), symmetrically disposed with respect to the channel axis, each formed by a pair of elongate lengths (125', 125'') along the axis of the channel and, respectively, by a pair of transverse lengths (126', 126'') on the axis of the channel.
