The gearbox comprises an assembly of two epicyclic trains with a double planet wheel (7) fixed to the input shaft (8), a double satellite carrier (9) fixed to the output shaft (10) and two internally toothed rings (11, 12) engaging with satellite pinions (13, 14), this assembly being arranged inside a housing (1). Each of the rings (11, 12) consisting of a plurality of elementary rings (38, 39 ; 40, 41, 42) separated by friction discs (43 to 49) is mounted freely rotatably in the housing (1) about the general axis of the box. Control means (52 to 68) are provided for fixing each ring (11, 12) to the housing (1) independently of the other ring or for freeing it in terms of rotation.
