ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn agent and a process for the oxidative dyeing of hairbased on a combination of developer substance and coupling sub-stance, wherein there is used as the coupling substance a 3-(2',2',2'-trifluoroethyl)aminophenol derivative having the gen-oral formula (I)(I),wherein the radical R represents an alkyl radical containing 1 to4 carbon atoms, a mono- or polyhydroxy-alkyl radical containing 1to 4 carbon atoms and up to 3 hydroxyl groups, an alkoxy radicalcontaining 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a mono- or polyhydroxy-alkoxyradical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and up to 3 hydroxylgroups or a halogen atom or its physiologically compatible saltas well as novel 3'-(2',2',2'-trifluoroethyl)aminophenol deriva-tives.
