ABSTRACTProcess and apparatus for producing resin-impregnatedfiber tow or strand in the form of prepreg tape. Theapparatus includes unique coating wheels for sunface-coat-ing the strand with molten, flowable resin and a kneadingsection to work the strand and disperse the molten resinuniformly among and between the individual fibers of thestrand. The strand, after chilling, has good dimensionalstability and is useful as prepreg in forming compositestructures.
