MELT PROCESSABLE CPVC BLENDS AND ALLOYS THEREOF

ABSTRACTChlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) polymer alloysgenerally contain relatively large amounts of a flowenhancing polymer such as alpha-methyl styrene and acompatibilizing agent such as styrene acrylonitrilecopolymer. The alloys are made from blends having asignificant increase in processing stability, often morethan double than CPVC compounds. Conventional salts canbe utilized to co-stabilize the blends. Other improvedphysical properties of the alloys include dramaticallyreduced melt viscosities and good flexual modulus whencompared to CPVC. Good impact resistance can be developedby the incorporation of impact modifiers such asacrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers. Thesmoothness of milled sheets made from the CPVC alloys isalso significantly improved.
