894155IR281 LG(886-F) THIXOTROPIC CLAY AQUEOUS SUSPENSIONSCONTAINING LONG CHAIN SATURATED FATTY ACID STABILIZERSABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe physical stability of liquid gel-like compositions based onmontmorillonite, attapulgite, hectorite or other inorganic colloid-formingclay or other thixotropic thickener is greatly improved by incorporating inthe composition small amounts, such as 0.1 or 0.2 weight percent of longchain fatty acids. The aqueous compositions containing inorganic buildersalts and other functional inorganic salts, chlorine bleach, bleach-stabledetergent, thixotropic thickener and a fatty acid as a physical stabilizerexhibit a significant increase in apparent viscosity and remain stableagainst phase separation for an extended period of time. The thixotropicproperties can be retained or improved using smaller levels of the claythixotropic thickener than in the absence of the physical stabilizer. Useas liquid gel-like automatic dishwasher compositions are described.
