31ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTIONThe present inventions relate to production,detection of, and characterization of monoclonalantibodies/hybridoma antibodies (and thecorresponding hybridoma cells including derivedhybrid cells) which are able to recognize proteins(or part(s) thereof) belonging antigenically to theHuman Leukocyte Interferon System (HuIFN-.alpha.) - be thesaid proteins produced natively (for example by whiteblood cells) or produced by recombinant techniques(genetic engineering) or produced by peptidederivation of the said proteins or part(s) thereof) -exhibiting the same common antigenic determinant(s)as found to be common in the native HuIFN-.alpha. system.Such antibodies (or the relevant part(s) thereof) canbe used as "universal" antibodies for purificationand characterization of all the above mentionedproteins belonging to the HuIFN-.alpha. system.
