A monoclonal antibody having specificity to N-glycolyl type GM2 and a hybridoma producing a monoclonal antibody which has specificity to N-glycolyl type GM2 are described. The hybridoma can be established according to a method which comprises the fusion of (A) B-cells obtained by immunizing an animal from which thymus is removed when it is a neonate using a synthetic N-glycolyl type GM3 as an immunogen, and (b) myeloma cells. The monoclonal antibody can be used in, for instance, ELISA and TLC immunostaining which are usually adopted for the detection of cancer-related glycolipids.
