The invention relates to a batch process for carrying out a reaction with heterogeneous catalysis taking place at an elevated temperature, and producing heat-sensitive products. A heat exchanger (4) separate from the reactor (1) is used for heating and as a catalyst a fixed bed catalyst (3). The reaction mixture passes in continuous circles successively through the catalyst (3) and through the heat exchanger (4). The aim of this operation is to prevent catalyst and product losses in this way and to shorten the charging and possibly reaction time, in accordance with German patent applications P38 13 612.0 and P38 26 320.3. The invention also describes an installation for producing discontinuous heterogeneous catalysis of heat-sensitive products at high temperatures by means of a reactor (1), a heat exchanger (4) connected to said reactor but outside of it. ci, and an upstream mounted catalyst container (3) and comprising a fixed bed catalyst and a pump (2) for circulating in continuous circles the reaction mixture successively through the catalyst (3) and the exchanger thermal (4).
