The device for balancing and vertically bending the working rolls of a four-high stand (1) has in each case two double-acting hydraulic actuating cylinders (13) installed in the lower working roll chocks (4), symmetrically to the plane (12 - 12) of the roll axis. The actuating piston (14) of the actuating cylinder (13) serves to extend the piston rod (15) out of the lower chock (4) and for retracting the free end of the piston rod (15) into the upper working roll chock (5) during rolling and for retracting the piston rod (15) into the lower chock (4) to allow the working rolls (6, 7) to be removed separately.
