According to a method of determining blood sedimentation rate, fill a said sample of blood sedimentation with whole blood, which is allowed to settle for one hour and then reads the height of the plasma column above the blood sediment. Inserting the test piece (1) into a reading position (4) where a plurality of electrodes are arranged along the height of the specimen (1); applying to the electrodes a variable voltage signal; determining the impedance of blood (2, 3) present in the test specimen (1) between pairs of electrodes (5, 6); the position along the height of the specimen is determined (1) where an impedance change occurs on the basis of the impedance difference between the plasma (2) and blood sediment (3); and the distance is determined between said position and the upper surface (14) of the plasma column (2). The invention also relates to a method implementing the device.
