The use of word processing systems, EDP equipment or "new media" by blind people is now possible in principle, since Braille can be converted electronically and processed as a 6-bit code. Electronically controllable Braille read lines are used for the representation of Braille, sometimes in the form of double lines. Occasionally, speech synthesizers can also be used. These presentation formats are limited in that the line-by-line serial output of text practically prevents an overview of the breakdown structure of a text page (sections, blocks of empty lines, columns, graphic components, etc.).
