A specifically low weight alloy suitable for hot and cold die casting is a Mg-Li alloy contg. up to 10 wt. %. The alloy pref. contains 7-9 wt. % Li. The alloy is produced under inert gas and die cast with a high pressure of approx. 500 bar at a speed of 30m/sec into the mould. The inert gas which may be present when making and casting the alloy is pref. SFo or SO2. ADVANTAGE - Besides being light the alloy has good strength properties.
