A light material (esp. liq.) separator has a container through which waste water flows horizontally, the container having a coalescence insert associated with an underlying inlet and, at the opposite end, an outlet. The novelty is that the coalescence insert (8) is in the form of a vertical hollow body, through which liq. flows radially from the inside to the outside. - The hollow body (8) is pref. releasably attached to a lower distributor fitting (5) onto which cages (7) are fixed, the hollow body (8) being fitted over the cages. The container (1) may have two or more hollow bodies (8) positioned symmetrically w.r.t. its longitudinal axis, the inlet (4) being located centrally between the hollow bodies (8).
