Gathering of tubular skins, esp. sausage skins - by forming inflated tube into caterpillar using rotating tool and opposing force by tangential gas jets

The invention relates to a process and appts. for gathering in tubular covers, particularly synthetic sausage skins. The inflated skin is conveyed to a gathering tool which rotates around the central axis of the skin and applies a force to the outer surface. Folds are formed in the skin and with an opposing force are pressed together to create a caterpillar form. A tangential force is applied by a gas to the outer skin surface just in front of the gathering tool and opposes the radial force created by the rotating gathering tool on the outer skin surface. Appts. comprises a gathering tool for applying a rotating force on the skin and nozzles arranged around the tubular skin to apply tangential force.
