Gamma radiation, proportional chamber, imaging detector has a gaseous active medium-filled multi-electrode detector arrangement, arranged in several planes and operated as proportional chambers in a gas chamber under any selected pressure. Detector signals, produced by an individual Compton electron released by a gamma quantum in a Compton collision, are combined in discrimination electronics for reconstruction of the origin location of the Compton electron and for selection according to further signal criteria, the frequency of events in a location interval forming the intensity signal for image representation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Detector is useful in the gamma radiography of solids or liqs. and in radiation therapy. It measures the local distribution of high gamma radiation intensities with high precision and has a large dynamic range with active scattered radiation suppression in short detection times.
