Mfr. of an optically clear fireproof glazing unit consisting of two or more glass panes sepd. by a gap contg. a fireproofing material, comprises (i) preparing a low viscosity fireproofing precursor material from Al phosphate, acrylic acid derivs. (pref. methacrylamide and/or acrylamide), a photo-hardener and water; (ii) introducing the material into the gap or pouring it onto one of the panes; and (iii) irradiating with UV to convert the precursor material into the fireproofing material. ADVANTAGE - The process facilitates mfr. of glazing units of reduced thickness, increased fireproofing capability and increased ageing resistance of the fireproofing material.
