The method of measuring the amplitude of an electric current flowing in a conductor (1) involves generating an external, homogeneous magnetic field transverse, esp. perpendicular to the conductor and measuring the Lorentz force. The conductor is fixed and the Lorentz force exerted on a magnet (2, 3) against a block (6) is measured. A compensation magnetic field can be applied and varied until the Lorentz force is diminished to be unmeasurably small. The magnetic induction of the compensation field is than a measure of the current. ADVANTAGE - Simple, highly accurate and contactless measurement of current in conductor.
