Topical preparation contg. omega-3-fatty acids - for prophylaxis and treatment of skin inflammation e.g. eczema, burns, acene, contact allergies etc.

The use of topical prepns. (A) contg. omega-3-fatty acids (I) or esters or salts for the prophylaxis and treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory skin disorders is new. (A) contain 0.2-25 wt. % of (I) as such or as a component of fish oils and can opt. contain an additional fat e.g. a medium contg. triglyceride. Pref. eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is used. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) are used esp. against burns, neurodermatological conditions, e.g. allergic and endogenous eczema, acne, keloids, contractures, ulcerations, decubital ulcers, toxic degenerative eczemas and contact allergies. They are pref. applied as pharmaceutical or cosmetic prepns. esp. as lotions, creams, gels, solns. salves or on gauze or plaster. Treatment with (A) brings about rapid healing and is not accompanied by side effects as occur e.g. during corticosteroid therapy. Further, (A) avoid the unfavourable cost/benefit ratio and the side effects, e.g. increased blood coagulation time of enteral and parenteral preparations known e.g. from EP311091.
