In the electrochemical surface treatment of fibrous materials esp. of carbonised or graphitised fibres anodically oxidised. Fibre or a strand (I) is fed, in an electrolysis bath, through a cylindrical counter electrode producing a higher field strength and finally through a region of lower field strength.
