The installation for humidfying and cleaning the air in a room has a water tank (26) which supplies water to a device which produces a cloud of water droplets. Additional tanks (32, 52) collect the water precipitated from the cloud of droplets. A fan (36) draws in a stream of air which flows thorugh the cloud of droplets. The cloud of droplets is produced by a first and second aerosol producer (16, 17). The first aerosol producer (16) produces an aerosol with the most frequent droplet dia. lying between 0.1 and 10 micrometres whilst the second aerosol has a most frequent droplet dia. lying between 10 and 20 micrometres.
