Lining process for pipelines repair - sealing side ducts with position indicating caps for location by liner cutting equipment after lining main pipe

The pipeline is first prepared by inserting special caps (5) into the side ducts (2) to seal them prior to inserting the main liner (3) and filling the space between the liner and pipe with cement, etc. The centre of each seal cap has a position indicator (6) to enable the cutting equipment (9) to be accurately positioned for cutting into the side ducts. A simple position indicator comprises a magnetic rod (6) whose position is located by three sensors arranged in a triangle. Other sensors may detect HF sources, thermal sources, etc. The cutter is remotely driven and cuts into the side ducts while welding the joins. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for sewerage pipes. Accurate liner positioning w.r.t. side ducts, self locating.
