An air vortex spinning head for staple fibre is cleaned by reversing the direction of air flow in the spinning jets while preventing the exit of air from the mouth of the air channel. At the same time the reversed, dust laden cleaning air flow is sucked away from as near as possible to the point where it emerges. During the cleaning operation the fibre supply and the spinning air supply can be stopped and cleaning air can be blown into the air channel. A cleaning yarn can be introduced and withdrawn during cleaning. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention removes deposits and maintains the effectiveness of the spinning head.
