The visually transparent substrate is used in a construction of multiple shells to form a cockpit cover and features coatings of a semiconductor material to form a microwave absorber. The cover features at least one substrate (1), 2 semiconductor layers (2,4) and an intermediate spacer layer (3). Also claimed is a construction with 2 transparent spacer layers. Both the spacer layers and substrate are pref. made of a polymer, copolymer or glass. The semiconductor material used is pref. InSn-oxide (ITO), the 2 layers have different conductivities and it is applied pref. by sputtering. The construction is built up using transparent adhesive bonding between the parts coated with the semiconductor layer. USE/ADVANTAGE - The semiconductor layer and intermediate layer thickness can be tailored to absorb microwave radiation in the GHz range, making it successful as a radar absorber. One or both of the shells have a thickness of lambda/4n where n is the refractive index of the material.
