A protective material for fibre protection, esp. of roofs consists of non-burning, particle form components of particle size 2-12mm which under normal weather conditions is not, or only insignificantly degraded out in the open. The material can be conveyed pneumatically. The material contains additives, such as binders and/or nutrients, pref. anhydrite (esp. of density 30-150 kg/m3) or humus. The material has total pore vol. 50-60 vol. % in air dried condition and has a water storage capacity of 100-200 water per m3. The particulate component is calcined clay, pumice, inflated clay, inflated slate, lava, slag. USE/ADVANTAGE - The material gives the roofs fire protection, but can also be used as a plant substrate for grassed-over roofs and can also be used on roofs which are to be walked on. The material is suitable for use on flat roofs, or roofs with only a very slight slope (up to 25 deg) when used as a plant substrate the material simultaneously acts as a drainage layer. When used as a plant, substrate on conventional drain layers, clogging up of the filter layer is prevented.
