An installation for packing foodstuff, first slices the foodstuff and then transfers it to the packing machine. The transfer device receives the foodstuff from the slicing station (39) and transfers it to the packing station. - The transfer device has a frame formed from longitudinal members (2) which are connected to each other at their ends by flanges (3). These flanges (3) support guide tubes for a slide (11) which is provided with a turntable (13). The turntable (13) receives the foodstuff at the slicing station and the slide then moves along the guide tubes to the packing station (40). The turntable (13) may be rotated if necessary to suit the packing station.
