Recycling of fluorescent lamps and broken pieces involves breaking off the pump tube; removing the end socket(s) for sepn. into individual components; tilting the lamp centre tube; drum screening the broken pieces; continuously heating the phosphor to remove mercury; and processing the lamp ends. A process opt. involves individual steps which allow supply and processing of fluorescent lamps of any shape and broken lamp pieces in a crusher (18) and of broken frame pieces in a crusher (14). ADVANTAGE - The process allows recycling of the glass mercury, phosphor, aluminium, and various other metals, avoids mercury and noxious material-contg. waste products and minimises the amount of waste products.
