Agent contains salts of tri- and/or tetra-valent metals, esp. salts of Fe, Al or Ce. Pref., the metal salt is poly-Al chloride of formula Al2(OH)nCl6-n, where n = 2.5 - 5. The agent may also contain a cationic (co)polymer, esp. of diallyl methyl ammonium chloride of formula (I) or poly(oxyethylene(dimethylimino) ethylene(dimethylimino) ethylene-dichloride of formula (II). The compsn. is prepd. by mixing the metal salt and the (co)polymer, and pref. contains up tp 90 wt.% of salt, the rest being polymer. It may be liq., prepd. by mixing an aq. soln., and/or suspension contg. 10 - 70% (20 - 50%) of Al2(OH)nCl6-n and an aq. soln. contg. 10 - 40% (20 - 30%) of (I) or (II). ADVANTAGE - More rapid (above 50%) oxidn. of NH4 cpds., and elimination of nitrates is obtd., esp. in the biological stages of (waste) water purification plant, or in prodn. processes (fermentation). Waste water tanks can be smaller. Oxidisable matter, e.g., in waste water, is oxidised more rapidly. (0/0)
