摘要
In assembling a fibre-optic cable (3) and connector (7) the outer mantel is clamped (4) then trimmed back to expose the fibre and its surrounding tension-relieving screen of plastic fibres (2). The latter are blown back over the outer mantel by an airstream through a split nozzle holding a crimp-shell (6) which is then pushed forward over the fibres as the nozzle advances. The nozzle then opens, its two halves withdrawn and the connector is pushed over the optical core. Next the crimp shell is withdrawn along the outer mantel, the plastic fibres are fanned out over the connector entrance and the crimp-shell then pushed back over the entrance prior to final crimping (8). ADVANTAGE - Suitable for automatic processing in producing strain-resistant terminations of small bending-radius.
