An arrangement indicating the max. permissible revolution rate of a motor vehicle's i.c. engine contains a warning limit or warning range on the revolution meter. During the starting and/or warm-up phases the current max permissible engine speed is computed on the basis of at least one engine life influencing parameter. - The engine speed warning limit or warning range is adjusted according to the current max, permissible speed. The influencing parameter can be the engine oil temp. and/or the coolant temp.
