The two ends of the sensor (6) are connectable with a housing (1), following its application at the body extremity, which facilitates a reproductible fixing of the sensor housing at the extremity being examined, for minimising the movement artefact, and which accepts a connection cable. The strain sensor has an elastic sheath, which is filled with an electrically conducting fluid, the resistance of which is measured. The sensor housing can be in parts, so that a mutual overlapping of the strain gauge strip is possible. The control and evaluation unit (MS) sets the electrical working point of the strain sensor (6) controlled by a computer, and automatically carries out the calibrating of the measuring signal. USE/ADVANTAGE - Non-invasive measurement. Gives accurate measurement and ensures result is not falsified by circumferential alterations not associated with extremity e.g. leg being measured.
