Machine for cutting off paper rolls - has sensors to detect state of parent roll and travelling clamp to allow ends to be discarded

The paper rolls, which may be kitchen rolls, toilet rolls etc., are cut off from long parent rolls stacked in a magazine (1) ready to be handled through a machine with a cut-off disc (14). The cut rolls must have square ends and be of correct length, whilst starting (20) and end pieces must be separated out. These requirements are achieved in a machine having three fixed clamps (8) and a clamp (10) which can be traversed from a position near the cut-off disk to a position some distance away (as shown). Pushers (4) on a continuous belt push the parent roll into position and through the cutting cycle. After the first cut the starting piece drops out of the way. The travelling clamp is then moved up close to the cut-off disk and acts as a rest for the cut-off rolls until the last full length roll can be cut. This condition is registered as a gap by sensor (9). ADVANTAGE - Exclusion of starting and end pieces is guaranteed. Rolls are cut to exact length with square ends. Adjustment can be made to ensure accurate registration of patterned products.
