(A) A remote-controlled automated process for flask filling with liq. radioactive or toxic wastes, which have been concentrated in rotary thin film evaporators, involves (i) advancing two empty containers, (2) with empty flasks (3) or the like (e.g. cardboard boxes) on a transport system (1) into a limited access filling space (5); (ii) raising (7) the container lids, lifting (8) the accompanying flasks (3) and lowering the flasks into the containers (2); (iii) transporting (6) one container to a filling point (10) and filling its flask (3) with concentrated waste from the evaporator (11); (iv) transporting the other container in the direction of the filling point to a waiting position at a predetermined minimum distance from the filling point for rapid container changing and intermediate further operation of the evaporator (11); (v) transporting the container with a filled flask from the filling point (10) and opt. closing the flask with a lid; (vi) transporting the other container from the waiting position to the filling point (10) for flask filling; (vii) closing (7) the lids of both containers having filled flasks (3); and (viii) transporting both containers out of the filling space (5) while maintaining safety measure and unloading for transport to final storage dumps. (B) A plant for carrying out the process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - The process operates safely, avoids encrustation of the thickened waste solns. in the plant and allows continuous flask filling without requiring withdrawal of the evaporator for container changing.
