Turbidimetric determn. of fibrin monomers in plasma is effected by (a) diluting citrated plasma with at least an equal vol. of Owrens veronal buffer, (b) treating 4 parts of the diluted plasma with 1 part of a 15 mg/ml netropsin soln. in 0.15M Hepes buffer (pH 7.5), (c) measuring the extinction at 405 nm after 5 and 600 secs., and (d) reading the result from a calibration curve for fibrin monomer concn. versus extinction difference. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process may be used in the diagnosis of blood clotting disorders associated with disseminated intravasal coagulation. The process is rapid and gives quantitative results (cf. EP-253255)
