The distance measuring sensor system has a sensor supplied with a measuring voltage which is evaluated to detect the distance of the sensor (2) from an adjacent object (3). The measuring voltage is fed to the sensor (2) via a screened cable (5) linking the sensor body (1) with a control unit (6). The sensor body (1) exhibits defined characteristic resistance (13) terminating the screened cable (5) and evaluated by the control unit (6) via a separate interrogation voltage. Pref. the evaluated resistance is compared with a number of resistances to allow an alarm signal to be supplied. USE - For laser cutting tool.
