Two toothed racks are operated by an electric drive motor for lifting the shopping trolley to the height of the next step. The shopping trolley is tipped to move it onto this step, an inclination switch being operated for automatic retraction of the toothed racks. Pref. the electric drive motor has a thermal current overload protection and a ship coupling providing a mechanical overload protection.
