Benzylation of aromatic cpds. is effected using a carbon catalyst. USE/ADVANTAGE - The prods. are useful as modifiers for epoxy and polyurethane resins, as corrosion-resistant coatings, as binders in the foundry and refractory industries, in casting compsns., as briquette binders, in adhesive compsns., as heat-exchange fluids, in combination with aliphatic and naphthenic mineral oils as process oils in the rubber and printing industries, and as solvents for dyes in carbonless copying papers.
