Moulding materials consisting of plastic and auxiliary materials are claimed. (I) esp. for building applications and for the prodn. of insulating layers and pressure-proof and heat-insulating coatings and components. (I) contain about 30 wt.% curable liq. plastic with dynamic viscosity 500-1000 mPa.s (II) and about 70 wt.% spherical, inherently porous, high-strength fillers with graduated particle size from 0-3 mm. and a pore content of about 30 vol.% (III). (II) is low-mol. wt. epoxy resin, crosslinked with polyamine, (III) consists of at least partly hollow, approx. spherical inorganic particles (IIIA) pref. glass spheres with dia. 0.05-0.15 mm. and hollow spheres of earth metal silicates esp. Al silicate and/or earth metal oxides, esp. corundum with dia. 0.08-3.0 mm. and spherical particles of organic materials (IIIB) pref. expanded phenolic resin with a closed surface and dia. 0.005-0.25 mm. (I) also contains colour pigments, pref. compsn. is 55-60 wt.% expanded (hollow spherical) earth metal silicates and/or oxides, 5-10 wt.% hollow spheres of phenolic resin, 4-7 wt.% solid glass spheres, 23-25 wt.% Bisphenol AF resin with reactive diluent, 6-7 wt.% polyamine hardener and 0.3-1.0 wt.% colour pigments, pref. the filler granules are graded to give the highest possible layer density. USE/ADVANTAGE - Moulding materials with a combination of high strength (compressive, flexural/tensile, shear strength) and high thermal insulation capacity are obtd. which can be used with other high-strength building materials to give very homogeneous components etc. with uniform load bearing properties
