The process shifting system has each process (PR1...PR3) stored in a respective memory location which is matched to it in size, with the processes (PR1...PR3) shifted via shifting addresses held in the working memory (AS) to eliminate gaps between the memory locations. A logic devices uses a direct access mode to deposit a copy of the shifted programme in the working memory (AS) at the shifting addrss with a write in access to the copied process (PR1...PR3) being detected during shifting for subsequent write in to the shift address. ADVANTAGE - Efficient utilisation of working memory.
