The indwelling needle for infusion, blood extraction etc. into or from a vein comprises a tube connected to a chamber, and a metal puncturing needle extensible through and beyond the tube and having a head by which it is extracted. The front part of the tube penetrating into the body is of oligodynamic metal discharging metal ions on contact with fluids, or of an equivalent metal alloy or high-grade steel. The other parts of the tube are of flexible material, typically plastic. Copper, silver or gold can be used for the front part, or alternatively supporting material coated with oligodynamic metal. ADVANTAGE - No infection from sickness-generating bacteria.
